Lets be honest, we don’t really want all the added sugars and artificial flavours that come in your typical sports drink. Here are a few recipes that we have tried out that have all the great benefits without all the added junk! Any they taste good too!

 

1. Lemon Ginger Electrolyte Boost

Benefits

Lemons: Liver detoxifier and also high in potassium – an essential electrolyte
Salt: Essential for maintaining electrolyte balance
Ginger: Ease stomache unrest and aid in muscle recovery


Dwell-Gym-Sport-Drink-Lemon

Ingredients

  • 1 medium-sized ginger root
  • 1.5 litre of water
  • Stevia
  • Juice of 3 small lemons
  • 1/2 tsp. Sea salt (you can add a bit more if you’re a heavy sweater)

Method

First create your ginger water by cutting ginger into slices and placing in a large pot. Cover ginger with 1 L of water and bring to a boil.  Simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand until cool.  Add liquid stevia to taste and store in an air tight container overnight in the fridge.

To create your drink combine 1/2 litre of your ginger water with 1 L of water.  Add the juice of three lemons, 1/2 teaspoon of  sea salt (more if you tend to crave salts after a workout) and stevia to taste.  Mix and enjoy!
 


 

2. Coconut Watermelon Refresh

Benefits

Watermelon: Rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that helps promotes a healthy heart
Salt: Essential for maintaining electrolyte balance
Coconut Water: The champion for rehydration and bonus it’s high in fiber

 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup watermelon cubed
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • The juice of 1/2 a lime
  • 1/2 tsp. sea salt (you can add a bit more if you sweat a lot)

Method

Simple… Blend ingredients and enjoy!

3. Citrus Soda Sipper

Benefits

Baking soda: Counteracts the buildup of lactic acid
Salt: Essential for maintaining electrolyte balance
Agave Nectar: Anti-inflammatory properties
Oranges: Vitamin C

Ingredients

  • 1 litre of water
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp Sea salt
  • 2 tbsp Agave nectar
  • The juice of 1/2 a fresh squeezed orange or your favourite citrus

Method

Combine all ingredients in a bottle. Shake well and enjoy!
